2010: What's "New" In the World
of Health Care
The Answer May Surprise You!
Anaheim, California - It's strange how what seems to be "new" or "advanced", can sometimes
really be old fashioned…and what used to be considered "old", or "folksy" can really be more
advanced. Here's what we're talking about.
For the last hundred years or so, health care was pretty much controlled by the established institutions. The public
had been conditioned to take whatever "medicine" they had been dishing out to us. It could be in the
form of drugs, surgery, or other types of health care that are now commonly referred to as "Western Medicine".
Or, in some people's minds, were considered "new" and "advanced".
But, over the last few years, the public has learned the REAL DEAL. We've discovered that much of what was considered
"modern" as recently as a few years ago, is now looked at as old school. And, what was considered "primitive",
is now considered high-tech, and very advanced! For example, certain types of surgery that used to be considered
"advanced" are now looked at as being too harsh and old school. While non-invasive techniques that have
been used for decades to successfully treat those same conditions are now seen as the "advanced", more
humane methods.
See, what we've come to understand is that the REAL solutions for health care are to use the methods that are the
most advanced, efficient, easiest to administer, lowest cost…and come with the highest probability of success.
And…we want these methods to be the least invasive, the least risky, with the lowest probability of unwanted side
effects. Finally, as a society, people just want to get better, and stay healthy, without and bias over what kind
of doctor delivers the care, or whether or not the "establishment" blessed the methods.
And, it seems that the "establishment" isn't totally in charge any more. We believe that YOU are finally
in charge! Finally, enough people have said, "Enough", and have demanded that our health care be what
works best…instead of based on certain institutions' biases. We've finally reached the point in time where mostly
everyone agrees that the right answer is to blend in and use the:
Best and most successful of "Western Medicine" techniques, along side of the best and most successful
of what used to be called "Alternative Health Care"! It's ALL part of mainstream health care for 2010.
Now, in this new era of enlightenment, millions of Americans, in search of pain relief, no longer have to suffer
unnecessarily. You no longer have to choose between taking potentially harmful drugs, or going through surgery
as your only options. See, after a century of searching for the right answers, the verdict is finally in; Chiropractic
care works. Young and old, rich and poor are seeing doctors of Chiropractic for more than just back pain.
Chiropractors were once though of as doctors for treatment of only back pain. Now, Americans are being referred
to in droves to Doctors of Chiropractic for their auto and work injuries, neck and back pain, headaches, migraines,
sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, indigestion, allegories, osteoporosis, fatigue, osteoarthritis,
nutritional counseling, smoke cessation, weight loss, and more!
Did you know that Medical Doctors and Chiropractors have the same education?...Same pre-med requirements and 5
years of medical education. Chiropractors are primary health care providers at the same level as medical doctors.
There are only 2 differences between MD's and DC's: Chiropractors do not invade the human body - we don't cut you
i.e. Perform surgery nor do we prescribe harmful drugs! Secondly Chiropractors treat the cause of disease not the
symptoms. Medicines only change your symptoms. They do not cure you. Only your body can cure itself.
As a matter of fact, Chiropractic is now the third largest primary health care profession in the world!

Success Story of the Month
"Bad Back Let's Weeds Grow"
Sara and her husband Sam had been married for ten years. They were the happiest couple most had ever met. They
complemented one another very well. San liked to cook and was very interested in nutritional subjects while Sara
loved gardening. Her garden was known far and wide for its beautiful flowers and homegrown bounty of vegetables.
Her green thumb kept their family well-stocked with zucchinis, carrots, beets, spinach, and lettuce. In fact, most
years they had to give many of the vegetables away because Sara would grow more than they could ever possibly eat.
But one day, while Sara was in their back yard gardening happily in the sun, she bent down to plant some more seeds,
and all of her hard work finally caught up with her. She felt terrible stabbing feeling in her low back. "
I think that I am going to die," she staggered into the kitchen and told Sam.
The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with Sara after many x-rays, shots and too many invasive tests. Sara had
been poked prodded and vowed she would never ever go to a hospital again.
Sam felt relieved that there was nothing serious going on but Sara was more than cranky. The weeds were starting
to take over her garden, her back hurt, she had all these darned pills to take and nothing seemed to be making
the back pain go away. She wasn't used to being incapacitated in any way, and she didn't know what to do.
Sam told his wife, "I've been secretly doing some research about, I think that chiropractic treatments are
the best solution for you. You may have twisted your spine out of alignment, your muscles may be sore, sprained
or stiff or your vertebrae may need and adjustment. If so, these treatments could take care of your pain. Perhaps,
you should go see a chiropractor doctor."
Sara decided to poll friends, co-workers and neighbors she knew who had been to a chiropractor after an accident
or because of pain to find out what their experiences were. She was very surprised at the overall positive claims
they made for a wide assortment of ailments.
One friend told Sara that chiropractic treatments helped her reduce the stress she was experiencing during a transition
period. "Remember when I was going thru my divorce, lost my job and was so depressed? My therapist advised
me to see a chiropractor when I developed a strained neck on top of everything else. I saw Dr. Linda Miller who
told me I was holding too much tension in my neck and back. Dr. Miller worked with me to relieve the stress and
pain."
Sara's neighbor had poor posture and had gotten hurt at work while lifting heavy cans. "I would recommend
chiropractic treatments to anyone. They saved me months of agony and now I am standing tall and proud. I didn't
know that the chiropractor would help my bad posture that was a bonus. Chiropractic care is worth it's weight in
gold," he told her. When she hung up the phone, Sara concluded, "I'll make an appointment."
Sara felt immediate relief from our first adjustment and treatment! Within a couple of weeks, Sara almost felt
like her old happy self again, Sam told us. Now Sara makes sure that she comes in for every scheduled maintenance
visit. We couldn't be happier, and are glad we played a part in helping Sara overcome her back pain.
If you, or someone you know is in pain, and has been told there's nothing wrong with them, please let them know
about what we do. We might be able to bring them the relief they seek and won't get anywhere else! Just like Sara
found out, many conditions and symptoms can be treated successfully without drugs or invasive procedures like surgery
or injections!
(We love helping our patients and their friends, co-workers and relatives through their tough times and getting
them feeling better! We are here to help you stay feel better and look younger! Don't be a stranger. Call us, and
we will assist you in putting together a customized maintenance plan. It's not a luxury anymore! With our low monthly

Tip of the Month: Learning to De-Stress
(Information to make your life easier and healthier)
" Intermediate stress stoppers: (when angry, upset)
- Breathe deeply, slowly: The air oxygenates your cells, which allows you to think more clearly. It also gives
you a minute to regain your composure. Breathing is the most simple and direct approach to beating stress. Focus
on your breathing as your abdomen expands. Count 1- 2 - 3 - 4 as air goes in, and 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 as it goes out.
Do this several times.
- Walking is another terrific stress buster. If at work - head for the stairs - use up that energy of anger.
- Changing your routine is another easy way to take a stress break. Go to the movies before going home. Meet a
friend for dinner.
- Knowing what causes your stress helps you learn how to avoid it when possible.
- Repeating a mantra like "Let it go" or calm down , can reduce feelings of upset.
Don't worry, be happy!

6 Healthy New Years Resolutions
Why not start 2010 off right by resolving to make
yourself a healthier, happier person day by day
|
|
|
|
|
Live in the Now
Moment by moment by moment - the past is gone - the future hasn't
happened only now is now! Most often new years resolutions about health are about making absolute unbreakable rules
about diet, exercise etc. Begin each day a new and choose to eat that extra cookie or not. Don't worry if you choose
the cookie that day - it won't set you back forever.
|
Take More Walks
The simple act of walking - even a 15 minute stroll- away from
the confines of your home or office allows you to enjoy nature and exercise all at once. This mental and physical
break will immediately refresh you and you'll feel less stressed about your world.
|
Watch Less TV
Especially the news channels which are 95% about "bad"
news. Substantial evidence shows tv viewing leads to negative health outcomes. People actually get more colds &
flues by watching watching drug commercials about cold & flu season. So watch less tv and mute the commercials.

Try New Foods
Most of us eat about the same foods - out of habit, convenience
preferences etc. If your preferences aren't healthy ones you're in trouble. Mix things up once in a while. Try
at least one new food a week preferable of the healthy variety.
|
Make Time to Play
Have fun - keep your mind alert with a board game, crossword
puzzle, or even a sport. Try the Wii with your family, laugh a lot.
|
Spoil Yourself
Put taking care of yourself first. You can't take care of family or do your best at work if you are not healthy.
So eat, rest, exercise, plan to go to the movies, read a fantasy novel, or schedule a vacation. The best way to
spoil yourself is to plan a do nothing day once a month.

Nutritional Bites
(The other fiber - think green)
Most people think green veggies are good for them. However there is much confusion - misunderstanding. When I tell
my patients to eat green vegetables instead of whole grains their typical response is " then where will I
get my fiber from?" It seems that the recent "whole grain campaign" has changed peoples perception
from the true value of green vegetables. The facts prove that fiber amounts and over all nutritional density of
green vegetables like broccoli, celery, asparagus, bell pepper & cucumber, dark leaf lettuce, win hands down
over whole grains.
Pound for pound, calorie for calorie green veggies pack a nutritional wallop! For example2 pieces of whole-wheat
bread contain approximately 140 calories, only 4 grams of fiber and 140 milligrams (mg) of potassium. In contrast
2 cups of broccoli contain only 87 calories, but more than 9 grams of fiber and about 1000 mg of potassium!
Many diseases are now known to be associated with low fiber and low potassium intake. Low fiber diets underlie
constipation, appendicitis, deep vein blot clots, intestinal inflammation, and acid reflux. Fiber is thought to
help prevent colon cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
Research indicates we need daily, up to 11,000 mg of potassium. The average American gets only 2500 mg per day.
Low levels of potassium are associated with high blood pressure, strokes, kidney stones, osteoporosis, GI tract
cancers, asthma, and insomnia.
Green vegetables are known to offer numerous disease fighting benefits from phytochemicals as well as being filling,
very low in calories, and extremely nutritious. So harness the power of green veggies as part of your healthy diet.

Chiropractic in the News
Seattle Station: Chiropractic is Alternative to Back Surgery
The Oct.15 "Problem Solvers" report on Seattle KOMO 4 nightly news focused on back pain. The segment
explained that eight out of 10 people will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives, but cautioned viewers
to take steps to avoid surgery, stating that 95 percent of individuals with back pain do not need an operation.
Instead, the problem solvers suggested chiropractic manipulation and exercise such as yoga to ease back pain.

Chiropractic 101 - Understanding Your Body
What in the heck is a subluxation? It is a vertebra or spinal bone that is stuck out of alignment or crooked in
comparison to the bone above and below. This wrong position causes abnormal vertebral motion that causes malfunction
of the nerves and muscles which causes pain. Chiropractors detect and treat (correct) and prevent the vertebral
subluxation complex (VSC). Removing this nerve interference frees the nerve energy and allows your body to heal
itself. As you can see most spinal problems are more than just a bone out of place. The vertebral subluxation complex
describes abnormal position + motion of spinal bones which causes abnormal nervous system function (can lead to
ulcers, diabetes…) abnormal muscle function
(= degeneration, arthritis) and abnormal function of (spine + body = heart attacks). The subluxation is a primary
cause of disease in your body.
